Insects by GloomyFenris Insects by GloomyFenris
I've been practicing drawing insects lately. They're more fun to draw than people because their anatomy varies a lot, I specially like to draw flying insects. Their bodies are so aerodynamic, they're almost like machines.
I put the names below so you know what they are, I used pictures from the respective articles on spanish Wikipedia as reference.
It's probably not a good idea to link the photos because it'll make evident how shitty my drawings are but since I used them as reference:

Zygoptera (Damselfly)
Lepidoptera (Hummingbird hawk-moth and caterpillar)

More bugs to come, I still have to draw my favourite, the Tetragonisca angustula. And I've got to find other interesting insects to keep practicing.

Thank you for commenting :aww: well I like drawing them because their anatomy is different. Until now I used to practice drawing people only and I finally got bored, so insects are something new, I have to pay attention when I draw because I don't know what the next line it's gonna be.

Oh thanks for your explanation. Do you need to look at an insect photo while you're drawing it btw? I rarely draw anything beside anime characters. :|

Well....... actually your insect drawings are quite NICE! I love the shadow best for I just lack skills in that area. :iconsweethugplz:

yes I use photos to draw but I don't stick to them 100% I just get a first glance of the shape, draw what I remember and look at the picture again if when I need to, that's why my pictures never look exactly like the photography. The caterpillar was the hardest because it's all spiky, it was kind of confusing at first because I couldn't see the bug's silhouette under all those spikes but once I figured it out it came out pretty fast. The spider on the other hand was left unfinished because I'm so freaked out of spiders I didn't want to look a the photo anymore to continue the drawing so it's missing a couple of legs :XD:

I never tried drawing anime myself, most of the time I do realistic and lately cartoon, in fact one of the reasons I'm practicing bugs it's because my next 4 character are bugs and I wanna draw them right :D three of them are gonna be friends with my character Flora and the other one it's gonna be rivals with my other character the Grof, and I'm planning to do a comic for both so there's gonna be more bugs. I have a lot of work to do haha

You're afraid of SPIDERS????? :jawdrop::jawdrop: I guess it's a common issue to us girls alright. ^^; I don't like some types of insect but I won't mind looking at their photos b/c they're often very beautiful under a professional camera. :D

Well..... you're doing a great job. Go for it!! (and I will watch out for it!) :icongreatjobplz:

I don't like spiders because they're strange, specially their eyes. I remember when I was a kid I saw on Discovery Channel that spiders actually move their brain to see, among other creepy-ass documentaries about people that was biten by really poisonous spiders and almost died.

So that white shinny thing you see moving through their eyes is their brain, also I dislike the way they seem to run towards you when they're scared. Oh and once a spider bit my hand when I was asleep :B

I'm afraid of spiders too, especially those HUGE ones, they look threatening and scary with those spikes, not to mention some of them are POISONOUS!! OMG..... :iconshiverplz:

What happened to you at that time then? Was it hurt a lot? :(

huge? like this one? [link] those fangs look like cat claws :|

It bit my finger, the next day I woke up in pain and it was really really swollen.
It looked like my finger was pregnant or something.
